North Bay's Mike Brideau has been named Canada's greatest hockey fan and will become the first fan ever to be honoured into the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Brideau was a finalist in an online competition put on by TSN and Lays. The North Bay native collected 39 percent of the votes, beating out four other finalists from other parts of the country.

Here is the biography of Hockey's greatest fan:

I’m an avid hockey father and coach. This past year I was a Head Instructor for The Hockey for Beginners program here in North Bay as well as coach of my youngest son’s novice team, my oldest son’s peewee team and I was also the convener for the Atom House League division here in North Bay. I use things during the year to motivate my kids to have fun. An example would be when my Peewee team went to Kanata for a tournament. I only had 9 skaters and after our first win I told them that if we won our next 2 round robin games that they could do anything to my hair that they wanted too. Well…as you will see from picture they did.

If there’s a hockey game on t.v. (no matter what level of hockey) you can be rest assured that me and my boys are watching it.

I always instill fair play in my players and tell them at the beginning of the season that our main goal is to go out and have fun. I had a young man on my peewee team this year who has played rep hockey all his life and he thanked me at the end of the year because he said this was the most fun that he has ever had playing hockey.

GO OUT AND HAVE FUN!
