Blades fall in Steel City final

The North Bay Hilltop Variety Blades dropped a 6-3 decision to the Soo Thunderbirds in the final of the Steel City Tournament in Sault Ste. Marie on the weekend.

The Blades finished 3-1-1 in the round robin portion of the tournament starting out with an 8-2 win over Green Bay then thumped the Blades 8-2 then tied 5-5 with Sudbury.

In their fourth game the Blades edged Nickel City 5-4 before losing their fifth game 4-2 to the Thunderbirds.

In the semifinal the Blades won 3-2 over Michigan to set up the rematch with the Soo in the Steel City final.

All the round robin games against Northern Ontario competition will count in the league standings (2 wins 1 loss and 1 tie).
