The Chippewa Raiders dream season came to a grinding halt on Friday night on home soil.

The Raiders who were unbeaten and had not allowed a goal in regular season or playoff action dropped a 2-1 decision in penalty kicks to the St. Joseph-Scollard Hall Bears as they upset the #1 seed and become NDA Varsity girls champions.

The game was scoreless at halftime although late in the first half it appeared the Raiders struck first on a Bethan White free kick. Her shot appeared to get under the top right cross bar but according to the official the ball didn't fully cross the line and Bears keeper Mckenzie Quevillon kept it out.

The game remained scoreless until overtime when Raiders Bethan White and Bears Annie Bedard exchanged goals late in extra time which set up the always exciting shootout to determine the NDA varsity girls champion which the Bears prevailed 3-2. Kristen Malboeuf's shootout goal was the difference maker as the Raiders Emily Jurkevics was stopped by Quevillon to seal the shootout victory for the underdog Bears.

Both teams will play in the NOSSA championships on Monday at Widdifield Senior Secondary.
