The St. Joseph/Scollard Hall Bears jumped out to an 11-1 first quarter lead and hung on for a 58-35 victory over the West Ferris Lady Trojans in senior girls basketball Tuesday night.

Constant full court pressure by the Bears resulted in several turnovers on the Trojans part enabling the Scollard squad to take a 43-22 lead into the 4th quarter. With a never say quit effort on the part of the Lady Trojans and some full court pressure of their own, the girls were able to hold the Bears to 15 4th quarter points while draining 13 of their own. During the 4th quarter the Senior Trojans were able to break the full court pressure of the Bears with some quick ball movement and precise passing. Sarah Tancredi led all scorers with 26 pts followed by Erin Emery with 11. The Lady Trojans were led by the Nakogee twins in scoring, Rosie Nakogee scored 9 pts and Emily Nakogee contributed 8, Mckenzie Devlin chipped in 7 pts.

In junior action the Lady Trojans fell 28-22 to S.J.S.H squad. After leading 8-3 and 13-11 after the first two quarters the Bears came out strong in the 3rd quarter and outscored the home side 10-5 to take a 21-18 lead into the 4th quarter. The Trojans weren’t able to muster a comeback and although they held the Bears to just seven 4th quarter points they were unable to put the ball in the hoop themselves and only walked away with 4 pts in the final frame.

The Bears were led offensively by Meagan Elliot with 9 and Annie Bedard had 8 points. On the Lady Trojans end they were led by Abeba Kitchen who put forth another solid effort with 7 pts followed closely by Kylie Deschenes and Hannah Dick who each had 5 pts.

Both Lady Trojan squads see action again on Thursday night when they visit the Widdifield Wildcats den.
