Bears defence prevails

The St. Joseph-Scollard Hall Bears opened up with a strong defensive effort in their defence of the NDA Senior Football title with a 9-0 victory over the Widdifield Wildcats on a soggy Cundari Field on Friday.

Matthew Strood scored the only touchdown late in the game for the Bears on a short pass from Kevin Clayton deep inside Wildcat territory.

Barons roll

In the other opener the Algonquin Barons hammered the Chippewa Raiders 39-6.

Barons running back Jean Benoit led the way scoring three touchdowns for the Barons.

Ivor Wynne Opener

The West Ferris Trojans and Northern Braves meet at a neutral site venue in Hamilton at Ivor Wynne Stadium on Saturday.

Both teams competed last week under the lights in a four-team jamboree at West Ferris Senior Secondary.
