Baseball semi-final action

Wins for Moose Cookhouse and Rotarians in Sr. Baseball semi-finals
Baseball

The North Bay Senior Men's Baseball playoffs continued Monday night at the Steve Omischl Sports Complex.

In the first game, The Carte Blanche Rotarians took a first step towards getting back to the finals with a 4-2 win over Don's Pub and Grill from Sturgeon Falls. CBR scored three times with two out in the first inning, and relied on their steady defence to keep Don's Pub and Grill at bay. Sterling Bilz pitched four innings for CBR and despite not getting a single 1-2-3 inning under his belt, he managed to hold Don's Pub and Grill to 2 runs on five hits and four walks. Yves Laframboise pitched for Don's Pub and Grill and struck out four over five innings. Kevin Palfrey did most of the damage at the plate for CBR with a two run single in the first on a day when he went 2-3 with two runs scored.

In the late game, the Moose Cookhouse won a nail biter 2-1 over Assante.  Jacob Brown pitched a complete game and so did Assante's pitcher, Eric Allair.  The Moose Cookhouse scored first with Nick Morin driving home Nick Rivet. Assante scored their run on a sac fly behind second base to even things up. However, with the hits hard to come by, The Moose Cookhouse patiently waited out the winning run when they scored in the bottom of the fifth on a bases loaded walk.

Up next, it could be a couple of must win games for a couple of teams on Wednesday. All teams are guaranteed three games in this playoff format, but two losses could kick you out of championship contention, and Wednesday's games will feature four teams with one loss already under their belt.

At 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday night, Don's Pub and Grill take on the Miner's Son (PLAYOFF GAME 5) and at 8:45 p.m. Assante will play the North Bay Midget Stingers (PLAYOFF GAME 6).

Winner of Game Five will play the loser of Game 6 and vice versa on Sunday, August 13th (6:30 p.m. and 8:45 p.m. start times).

Meantime, The Carte Blanche Rotarians and The Moose Cookhouse will play each other on Monday, August 14th at 6:30 p.m. with the winner going straight to the championship finals. The loser will play in a semi-final game.
