The Ecole Secondaire Catholique Algonquin Barons Girls Hockey Team captured the Trojan Girls Hockey Challenge for the 3rd straight year by downing the Timmins High & Vocational Institute Lady Blues 4-0 in the finals. First year winger Amanda Edmunds was an offensive catalyst in the finals scoring 1 goal and setting up 2 others. Fourth year goaltender Laura Handley was outstanding in earning her 3rd shutout of the tournament. Amanda Hampel and Meagan Willard rounding out the scoring for the Barons.

In pool play the Barons downed the Franco-Cite Patriotes 1-0 and the Chippewa Raiders 5-0 on Thursday and then managed a hard-fought 4-2 win against the SJSH Bears on Friday morning, setting up the championship final versus Timmins High.

“The whole team played hard, and had fun, but Catrine Trudel’s effort was tremendous all tournament," said Barons coach Tim Lowe.

“Trudel does things that just don’t show up on the score sheet and then to have a rookie grade nine (Edmunds) lead the charge offensively with 6 goals and 4 assists in the tournament is phenomenal. It's really fun to watch the girls play. They really gave a gutsy effort, since we only had 9 players for both games today”, added Lowe.

The Barons are back in action in Toronto on March 1-2 in the Canlan Ice Sports Girls Hockey Classic.
