The Algonquin Barons knocked off the defending champion West Ferris Trojans 56-49 in NDA Senior Boys basketball action Thursday night at the West Ferris gymnasium. The Barons used a tough defense to earn the victory. Nick Bedard led all scorers with 23 points, while Marc Charron added 15, while Jamie Sneddon and Alec Rancourt each added 5 and 4 points each. The Trojans were led by Cole Addley added 21, while Charlie Hancock added 9 points and Brady Facette and Spencer Brear had 8 and 6 points respectively.

"Our defense was solid tonight," said Barons head coach Tim Lowe.

"We forced them out of their half-court offense and we rebounded well. I thought we played with poise and discipline - a good team effort. It's nice to win, but its even better to go to even our record at 1-1 before the Christmas break.

"The only thing I was concerned with was our foul shooting, especially down the stretch", added Lowe.

The Barons shot a dismal 12 for 28 from the foul line.

"Other than that, we executed our game plan extremely well," Lowe said.
