Despite going undefeated in pool play, the ESC Algonquin Barons failed qualify for the quarter-finals at the OFSAA Boys "A" Soccer Championships being held in Timmins this week.

Thursday's action saw the Barons tie Woodland Christian H.S. 1-1. Steven Piquette scored the lone Barons goal. In the Barons second game, the Barons were all-square with South Lincoln H.S. 2-2, with Piquette and Marc Sénécal picking up the markers for Algonquin.

In Friday's all important third game, the Barons tied third seed Ashbury College 2-2, leaving them on the outside of the OFSAA playoff bubble.

"The boys are disappointed yet very proud of their season," said Barons coach Bob Sneddon.

"It's tough to swallow when you're undefeated in pool play and don't advance, but we didn't take advantage of our chances in the 2nd game versus South Lincoln," he added.

"The one thing we have is our first ever NDA title in senior boys soccer and back-to-back NOSSA titles."

The Barons entered the championship seeded fifth.
