The Algonquin Barons improved to 3-1 with a 28-6 victory over the Northern Braves in NDA junior football action Tuesday afternoon.

The first half was a defensive struggle as both teams entered halftime deadlocked at six. Slotback Josh O’Donnell scored the major for the Barons while running back Mathew Charbonneau found the end zone for the Braves.

However, in the second half turnovers and a great Barons ground attack led by fullback Devon McGirr and tailback Junior Gauthier was the difference. Tailback Junior Gauthier, slotback Mat Lavigne, and quarterback Éric Joly all scored majors for the Barons, while Lavigne and Tyler Miller each added a two-point conversion.

As in their first three games, the Barons defence led by Jonathan Wilkinson, Jamie Sneddon and Adam Price, forced fumbles and shut down the Braves offence in the second half. In their first four games, the Barons defence
has only allowed 12 points.

With the loss, the Bravec drop to 2-2. The Barons will now face the Franco-Cité Patriotes on Tuesday, October 20th in Sturgeon Falls. The Braves are also back in action Friday as they host the West Ferris Trojans.
