Barons earn silver in Timmins

The E.S.C. Algonquin Barons senior girls basketball team went 3-1 to earn the silver medal in the Sister Fay Tournament of Excellence in Timmins on the weekend.
The E.S.C. Algonquin Barons senior girls basketball team went 3-1 to earn the silver medal in the Sister Fay Tournament of Excellence in Timmins on the weekend. Their only loss was at the hands of the Lo-Ellen Park Knights (Sudbury) in the finals 59-43. Tanya Simard poured in 23 points in the losing cause, while Mila Paris added 11. Genevieve Dumas pulled down 9 rebounds.

In the semi-finals versus E.S.C. Theriault (Timmins), the Barons managed a hard fought 42-34 victory. Simard led all scorers with 26 points and garnered 8 rebounds, while Paris chipped 9 points. Dumas added 3 points and pulled in a huge 16 boards.

On Friday, the Barons easily handled Iroquois Falls S.S. 72-17. The top point getters were Paris 19, Simard 18, Daphne Reynolds 9, Stephanie Poirier 8, Kimberly Gibson and Alisha Perron with 6 each. Later that evening, they downed the Kapuskasing District H.S. Kolts 53-21. Simard and Paris scored 22 and 18 respectively, while Catherine Senecal added 4 points.

Up next week for the Barons are two league games versus E.S. Franco-Cite and West Ferris S.S.
