The Algonquin Barons captured their 6th NDA championship in 9 years by downing the Chippewa Raiders 41-30 in game two of the best-of-three NDA Senior Girls basketball final last night at the Raiderdome. The Barons were led by Jolinne Maisonneuve who managed to outscore the whole Raider team as she poured in 32 points. Nadine Perron and Alisha Perron chipped in 4 points and 3 points respectively.

“I’m so proud of these girls," said Barons head coach Tim Lowe.

“They’ve earned this, by working hard all season long, but the effort put forth by Jolinne was amazing. We talked about playing our best game when the chips are down, and she did just that."

The Barons once again showed that they can play defense, as they completely shut down the Raiders offense and held Sam and Sarah Loreto to few offensive chances. The Raiders were led offensively by Lindsay Amell who scored 12 points. Alisha Perron and Sarah Trottier were a thorn in the Raiders offense as they forced numerous turnovers and came up with every loose ball. Nadine Perron and Morgan Mantha each pulled in big rebounds at key moments of the game.

The Barons are hosting the NOSSA “A” Junior and Senior Girls Championships this weekend at the Algonquin gym. Games start at 4:00 p.m. with the Barons hosting ESC Horizon from Sudbury.
