The Lady Trojans started their 2008 season Tuesday night at the West Ferris field hosting the Algonquin Barons.

The first half was scoreless. Both teams battled back and forth and it was Valerie Godin from the Barons who scored a well placed free kick past the Trojans keeper.

Trojans put together many scoring opportunities and were finally successful beating the barons keeper with Kally Watmore's shot from outside the 18-yard marker as this one ended in a 1-1 tie.

Strong performances were shown by both keepers (Carissa Poulin from West Ferris and Meagan Willard from the Barons). From the Lady Trojans Taylor Matson and Kylie Deschenes were offensive threats and Aaron Paibomsai, Kally Watmore, and Sarah Marshall were strong in the midfield. Sweeper Heather Isenegger directed her fullbacks (Caitlyn Meyers, Katie Sargent, and Kerri Shultz) to a near perfect performance.

For Algonquin, Valerie Godin and Janelle Martin were threats continuously through the middle.

Joline Maisonneuve made the game save covering for her goalie on the goal line stopping a well placed shot from Sarah Marshall.

The Trojans also should be recognized for their strong performance at the Gator Invitational on the weekend. The team won their pool and were defeated by St. Benedict's of Sudbury in the overtime. St. Benedict's won the championship game after putting out the trojans in that semifinal.

In other Girls action, Widdifield and Franco-Cite also finished in a 1-1 tie. Meghan Harling scored the lone goal for the Cats while Jessica Knight scored for the Patriotes.

The Raider girls - 2007 NOSSA champs - looked true to form as they handled Northern 8-0. Rebecca Tumino and Caitlin Hebert led the charge with two goals each while Katie Sloat, Sarah Loretto, Lindsay Amell and Linsday Wittick also scored for the girls. Paige Berath and Jennifer Gilmney shared the shutout for the Raider girls.
