Atom AA Blades Take AAA Silver

LINDSAY, ON - The West Ferris Wingate Minor Atom AA Blades Team participated in the 8th Annual Central Ontario Wolves AAA Tournament here this past weekend.


LINDSAY, ON - The West Ferris Wingate Minor Atom AA Blades Team participated in the 8th Annual Central Ontario Wolves AAA Tournament here this past weekend.

The team opened the weekend with a close 3-2 loss to the provincially ranked 10th place ‘AAA team, the London Jr. Knights. In their second game the Blades won a hard fought game with a 4-1 well deserved victory over the Elgin Middlesex AAA Chiefs who are ranked 8th in the province. They followed that up with a confident 9-1 victory over the Kitchener Jr. Rangers.

The team defeated the host team, Central Ontario Wolves 8-2 in the quarter finals, with a further 4-0 victory in their semi-final game against the Ajax Pickering Raiders.

In the final the Blades once again faced the Elgin Middlesex Chiefs, who were looking to avenge their earlier round robin loss to the Blades. The Championship game was a close checking, fast-paced game that could have went either way. A late game goal by the Blades in the final minute of play tied the score at 3-3, taking the game into overtime play. The score remained the same through a 5 minute sudden death overtime period. The Chiefs managed to win the match 4-3 in the next 5 minute 3 on 3 overtime period. The coaching staff was extremely proud of the team’s performance over the weekend, competing against some of the best Atom ‘AAA' teams in the province.

Dylan Bond, Dylan D’Agostino, Nick Davis, Matt Desjardins, Jacob Gravelle, Tye Lindeman, Mason McMahon, Eric Mondoux, Callum Pitz, Zach Roy, Dillon Seguin, Gavin Shaw, Brett Shawana, Braeden Staples and Payton Vescio.

Coaching staff includes: Kevin Vescio, Mark Mondoux, Jim Shaw, Mark McMahon, Gilles Seguin and manager Karen Bond.
