Doyle Anthony Junior of the Mounties’ basketball squad has won Athlete of the Week (for the week of January 7th to 14th)honours at Mount Allison for his impressive performance in the weekend’s games against NSAC and Holland College.
Doyle Anthony Junior of the Mounties’ basketball squad has won Athlete of the Week (for the week of January 7th to 14th)honours at Mount Allison for his impressive performance in the weekend’s games against NSAC and Holland College. In a 72-44 win over the NSAC Rams, Doyle hauled in 7 rebounds and scored 26 points with 4 assists. Then in the following game on Sunday, in an 85-80 loss against the visiting Holland College Hurricanes, he bettered his performance by grabbing 14 rebounds and scoring 33 points.

Last season the North Bay native was named the Mounties MVP and Mount Allison Male Athlete of the Year. The six-foot-five forward was also selected as an All-Canadian in the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association (CCAA) basketball conference this past season and a first-team Atlantic Colleges Athletic Association (ACAA) all-star.

Doyle is a former North Bay and Northern Ontario first-team all-star from West Ferris Secondary School. In 2004, his final high school season, he was an MVP there playing under the mentorship of coach Larry Tougas. In Doyle’s first year at Mount Allison, he was selected as the ACAA Conference Rookie of the Year, and as a second-team league all-star.

Anthony Jr. is enrolled in fourth-year Arts and majoring in history.
