Last year the victim was the Chippewa Raiders - this year it was the Widdifield Wildcats.

For the second year in a row the West Ferris Trojans mounted a serious comeback on home court and snuck away with 74-71 victory in overtime to claim the best-of-three NDA Senior Boys Basketball title in two straight.

The Wildcats held a 15 point lead at halftime, saw it dwindle to one at the end of the third quarter, and then appeared to regain control in the fourth with 10 straight points to start the final frame. Despite that lead the Trojans fought back again to force overtime tied at 62-62.

The Trojans then fell behind by five in overtime before Cole Addley’s three-point play in the final minute of overtime sealed the victory. Addley grabbed an offensive rebound under the bucket and rolled it it while getting fouled. He added the extra point on the foul and finished with 22 points on the night.

“It was sheer joy,” said the soft spoken Addley about his reaction after the ball rolled in.

“I just got the ball and I tried to go up and it went in.”

Dustin Anthony had a big game again as he led all scorers with 29 points. Brayden Burke had 20 points for the Wildcats while Mike Costello chipped in with 15.

Trojans head coach Larry Tougas was thrilled to see another impressive comeback.

"We didn’t lead the whole game – we didn’t lead the whole game,” Tougas repeated.

“It’s just a matter of being so resilient.”

Wildcats head coach Shawn Plamondon was impressed with his club’s fast start and he was expecting to see the Trojans mount a comeback.

“Basketball is a game of runs and you have to weather the storm and it was intense, it went into overtime and it was back and forth and they played a good game,” said Plamondon.
