The Nipissing Alouettes came so close to recording their first ever victory over the defending Russell Cup champions Bradford Rattlers but four second period goals proved to be the difference in a 7-6 loss at the Sturgeon Falls Arena on Friday night.
The Alouettes got goals from six different players as Robin Mendelsohn, André Leclair, Greg Hyde, Dan Madigan, Justin Huycke and Jordan Presseault all found the back of the net. Leclair also added three helpers while Mendelsohn chipped in with two. Chris Tumba scored twice for the Rattlers while Andreas Persson, Viliam Knap, Brad Schuler, Adam Parker and Boris Stukalin all scored singles.
Marcus Oksala picked up the win as he shared goaltending duties with Spencer Baron. Pat Beaudry took the loss in goal making 31 saves. The Als don't have to wait long for the rematch as they hit the road on Sunday to take on the Rattlers at the Bob Fallis Arena. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
