Alouettes ink 2nd and 3rd round picks

The Nipissing Alouettes have signed 20-year-old goaltender Tristan Jones. Jones, a 2nd round pick in the 2007 GMHL Draft played junior last season in the Vancouver area.
The Nipissing Alouettes have signed 20-year-old goaltender Tristan Jones. Jones, a 2nd round pick in the 2007 GMHL Draft played junior last season in the Vancouver area. The organization was looking for an experienced goalie to help develop their younger goaltenders.

The club also announced that 2007 third round pick Eric Belanger has signed with the West Nipissing team. The 15-year-old played with the Valley East Midget "AA" Rebels last season.

Meantime, the Alouettes came to terms with six other players after their mini-camp which was recently held at Pete Palangio arena in North Bay. The Alouettes came to terms with Kory Cashaback, Nico Tonello, Justin Preseault,Jarrod Shawanda, Matt Poeta, and Eric Belanger.

Cashaback scored 12 goals and 19 assists, had a strong finish with the club last season and he's expected to be a team leader this season. Nico is trying out for a Junior A team in Manitoba.

Tonello, is currently trying out for a Manitoba Junior "A" team but will join the Als if he fails to make the club.

Preseault, spent most of last year with the Widdifield Wildcats but played a few games last year with the Alouettes.

Matt Poeta captained the Chippewa Raiders last year.

Als main camp

The Nipissing Alouettes will be holding their open tryout Main Camp starting Tuesday August 21st at the Verner Arena. The camp is open to players born in 1987 to 1992. Player who are interested in trying out for the team should e-mail Gerry St-Onge at [email protected] or call 705-753-4920 to register.

Here are the dates and times of the main camp at the Verner Arena:

Tuesday, August 21st – 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Wednesday, August 22nd – 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Thursday, August 23rd – 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Friday, August 24th – 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
