Powassan OPP investigated a number of collisions Tuesday morning as wet snow and rain caused adverse driving conditions on our local highways.
A thre-car collision sent five to hospital with minor injuries. At approximately 7:40 a.m. Tuesday, 25 year-old Megandy Preston of North Bay, Ontario was driving a 1998 Toyota Corolla westbound on Highway 522 just east of Granite Hill Rd, Nipissing Township. Preston lost control on the slippery roadway and her vehicle collided head on with a 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by 57 year-old Marguerite Berriau of Arnstien, Ontario.
Five persons were sent to North Bay General Hospital with non-life Threatening Injuries.
Both drivers were sent to hospital along with 25 year-old Kathy Pearson of North Bay and 24 year-old Christine Kennedy of North Bay from the Preston vehicle; 20 year-old James Berriau was a passenger in the other vehicle.
Immediately after this initial collision, a third vehicle, a 1996 blue GMC van driven by 42 year-old Ron MacVicar of Loring, Ontario slid into the rear of the Berriau vehicle. MacVicar did not suffer any injuries and there was minimal damage to his vehicle.
In all, Powassan, North Bay and Mattawa investigated nne collisions due to the weather on Tuesday morning. Police responded to 14 traffic related matters (which includes the nine motor vehicle collisions) because of the weather.
