DRIVE SAVE THIS WEEK AND INTO THE WEEKEND
As Part of Canada Road Safety Week

North Bay, Mattawa and Powassan OPP officers will be among police services across the country educating and enforcing traffic laws to reduce death and injuries that occur on our roads every year.

As part of Canada Road Safety Week that started on Monday May 17th and runs through the Victoria Day May Long Weekend; this national campaign will see officers across the country focusing on ensuring everyone buckles up and youngsters are properly restrained in child seats according to their age and size. The North Bay OPP Cluster will also be checking vehicles to ensure no one drinks and drives and that speeding drivers slow down. These are the factors that put drivers, passengers and other road users at risk.

Here are the North Bay OPP Cluster Traffic Statistics for last year’s Victoria Day Long Weekend (May 16th – May 19th, 2003):

Number of seatbelt Violations: 0
# of Impaired Drivers Charged: 2
# of Speeding Charges: 84
# of Hazardous Moving * Violations *: 5
# of Motor Vehicle Collisions: 6
# of persons injured as a result of a Collision: 1

*(Includes – Intersection Related, Follow Too Closely and Careless Driving type violations)

Safety on the highways is everyone’s responsibility.
Do your part to ensure that Canada Road Safety Week is a success and have a safe long weekend.
