An afternoon fire in a basement apartment Nov. 10 lead to the evacuation of the occupants of four apartments located in the building at 461 Main Street in Powassan.

Smoke was observed coming from the building around 4:00 p.m. and the Powassan Volunteer Fire department and local OPP were called.

Everyone was evacuated from the building as fire fighters dealt with the blaze, which originated in a basement apartment.

No one was injured and the cause of the fire is not known at this time.

All occupants were temporarily relocated to local family residences until they can return to their homes.

Provincial Constable Dave Moore assisted the fire department in securing the fire scene and removing the occupants to safety.
