ARE YOU PREPARED FOR COLD WEATHER TRAVEL

(North Bay, Ont.)
Cold weather is upon us and the temperature can plummet to dangerously low levels especially when wind becomes a factor.

Freezing temperatures affect the way we travel and a possibility of a breakdown becomes reality at the most unexpected times.
Are you prepared?

The North Bay OPP would like to provide you with some helpful tips to tackle the cold if you have to travel:

· Make sure your car has been winterized and all fluid levels are topped up.
· Warm your vehicle up prior to departure and clear ice from your windows and side mirrors.
· Plan your stops on long trips and advise close friends and relatives as to your plans.
· Be prepared for changing weather conditions on the highway and slow down.
· Carry a winter driving survival kit that includes items such as warm clothing, non-perishable energy foods, flashlight, shovel, blanket, a ‘Call Police’ sign (if you have one), a cell phone (if you have one), and a candle with matches.
· If your car breaks down, ‘Don’ t Panic’; stay in your vehicle and keep warm; light the candle and await for help.

Avoid a tragedy, keep warm and stay calm.
