MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION
On Tuesday Aug. 31 at approximately 1:40 am, Provincial Constable Steve JOHNSON of Mattawa O.P.P. was operating an O.P.P. cruiser eastbound on Valois Drive in the Town of Mattawa when a westbound vehicle crossed into the eastbound lane striking the Officers car.

Mattawa Fire Department attended the scene and required the jaws of life to extricate the Officer from his vehicle. Both vehicles were severely damaged in the collision.

Provincial Constable Johnson was admitted to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A 30-year-old Mattawa man, Michael Meilleuri, is in custody and has been charged with Impaired Driving Causing Bodily Harm. Additional charges may be laid pending further investigation.

O.P.P. Reconstructionists and Forensic Identification Units were called in to assist in the investigation.
