On Tuesday July 6th, 2004, a Highway 94 resident in East Ferris Township discovered that someone had moved his Plymouth Voyager Van to a different location in his back yard. He also discovered that AMW DVD player was stolen from inside his residence. He contacted police.

Sometime between 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. on Monday July 5th, 2004, the culprit drove the van in the city of North Bay. The vehicle broke down and had to be towed. The vehicle was returned to the owner’s residence and a collateral payment was made. The DVD was recovered during the police investigation.

A female young person – who cannot be named under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act has been charged with Break Enter and Theft, Section 348(1)(b) and Take Automobile Without Owner’s Consent, Section 335(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada.

The young person will be appearing at the Ontario Court of Justice, 360 Plouffe Street, North Bay on August 11th, to answer to the charges.

This Activity Can Lead to Criminal Charges

Shortly after midnight, on Thursday July 8th, 2004, 44 year old Daniel Lagrois of Smiths Falls, Ontario was driving a 2000 International Tractor pulling a Trailer east bound on Highway 17 Papineau-Cameron Township east of Mattawa. Lagrois observed three three young males throw an object at his vehicle and smash his windshield. Lagrois was treated with minor injuries as a result of the mishap.

Police are continuing their investigation into this matter to determine the identity of the persons responsible.

In a totally unrelated incident in Trout Creek, three young persons, who cannot be named under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, were warned by the Powassan OPP after they were caught throwing rocks on to Highway 11 last night (Wednesday July 7th, 2004) at Hemlock Road. No damage or injury occurred in this incident.

This activity of throwing rocks or debris on a highway can lead to serious injury or death as it can cause major collisions. Motorists are put at risk as they have to react to the unexpected. If someone causes injury, they can be charged with the Criminal Offence of Mischief Endangering Life contrary to Section 430(2) of the Criminal Code of Canada. If they are found guilty and depending on the seriousness of the offence, they may receive life sentence in jail.
