A fatal collision near the Elliot Lake turnoff last evening has claimed a second life. The driver of the vehicle, Theresa Rocollet, age 36, of Serpent River First Nation, has died in hospital as a result of her injuries. She lost control, hit the guardrail and was then struck by a tractor-trailer.

The passenger in the car, Lionel Pine, age 39, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the truck, Robert Roy, age 57, was uninjured.


DROWNING VICTIM IDENTIFIED

The boater who drowned in Estern Lake has been identified. Dead is 47-year-old Donald Phillips of Elliot Lake.

Three men were in the boat early this morning when it capsized about 50 feet offshore. One male was able to swim for help while the other two remained in the water.

A second male was able to reach shore when police and firefighters arrived. The fire department then quickly recovered the third boater. Two were taken to St. Joseph hospital in Elliot Lake and treated. Mr. Phillips later succumbed to his injuries.

A post mortem is scheduled for Monday in Sault Ste. Marie.
