Mattawa OPP responded to two thefts in the area that were reported on Thursday May 20, 2004.

Sometime between 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday May 19th, and 8:00 a.m. Thursday May 20th, 2004, an unknown person, threw a baseball sized rock through the driver’s side window of a 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche and removed a small brown wallet from underneath the center console of the vehicle.

The Avalanche was parked at 1002 Brydges Street in Mattawa. Personal identification and a $50.00 cash were contained in the wallet. Police continue their investigation as this is the second smash and grab theft that occurred in a week. A purse was stolen from a vehicle parked at 331 Eighth Street, Mattawa, overnight between Thursday May 13th and Friday morning, May 14th, 2004.

Hydro One was a victim of a theft of a 2,000 pound warn winch and a battery from an 4 wheel All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) parked at the substation located on Old Highway 17, Papineau-Cameron Township. The theft occurred sometime between Tuesday evening May 18th and Wednesday morning May 19th, 2004.
