Body of girl found in Toronto dumpster, police say

Toronto police say human remains found in a dumpster earlier this week are those of a young girl between the age of four and seven.

Police say they have not yet been able to determine the girl's cause of death and are urging anyone with information to contact them.

Officers responded to a call about a body found in a construction-site dumpster on Monday afternoon and say they completed an autopsy on Wednesday that identified the remains as those of a young girl.

She is described as Black, of African or mixed African descent, and is three feet, six inches tall with a thin build.

Investigators believe the girl's remains were left in the area sometime between last Thursday and Monday.

But they also say the girl may have died as early as the summer of 2021 or even before then.

Police have released images of two items of clothing – a scarf and a blanket – associated with where the girl's body was found in the hopes that someone will recognize them and help identify the child.
