It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of Karel Zahradka, age 91, on May 19th, 2017, at Cassellholme in North Bay. Born in Neratovice, Czechoslovakia, Karel met and married the love of his life, Anna Klaus (‎deceased, 1991). Following the Second World War, Karel and Anna arrived to Canada, settling in the Sudbury area where they raised two children, son Peter (Cathy) and daughter Nancy Tod (Scott). Karel was an inspiring role model of honesty and generosity for his grandchildren, Jennifer and Erin Zahradka, and Stephen, Jessica and Kristan Tod. Karel was predeceased by his brother Jan and is survived by his sister Božka, and nieces and nephews in the Czech Republic. Karel cherished the times with his grandchildren at his house in Val Therese, and enjoyed the youthful activities they brought into his life after Anna's passing. A long-time employee of INCO in Sudbury, Karel was proud of his bountiful garden and his ability to fix anything that was broken. He had a workroom that was the envy of every handyman. A special thank you to his neighbours on Shirley Avenue in Val Therese for their assistance in watching over Karel and keeping him safe. A heartfelt and passionate thank you to the staff at Cassellholme. Your kindness, compassion and tender care will always be remembered by our family and we are forever grateful for the care Karel received. A great man with the kindest heart and warmest smile, he lived through many difficult and challenging times while always remaining positive and ‎content. In remembrance of Karel, donations can be made to the Near North Palliative Care Network or the Cassellholme Foundation in North Bay.  Online condolences may be made at www.mcguintyfuneralhome.com.
