Passed away peacefully at North Bay General Hospital, McLaren Site on August 24, 2005. Beloved husband of 65 years of the late Eunice Somers. He was in his 92nd year. Loving father of Billie-Marie Yakachuk and her husband Edward of Trenton and Inez Torrance and her husband Bruce of Red Deer, Alberta. Also predeceased by his son, Grant. Lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Christine Yakachuk, Daryl Torrance, Heather Swanson and David Torrance and by five great-grandchildren. James was also predeceased by his sisters Helen Landriault and Shirley Whitall. Fondly remembered by niece Carol White and husband John, by the Croghan Family and many other relatives and friends. Born in Toronto in 1913, Jim trained as a teacher, worked in insurance but found his place with the C.P.R. He retired after 35 years as a conductor. He served 12 continuous years as President of the United Transportation Union, Local 458 and also the local Labour Council. Jim was founding member of the NDP. He was a member of the North Bay Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M. #617 and the Rorab Shrine Club. Visitation for Jim will be held in the MARTYN FUNERAL HOME (across from City Hall) on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. There will be a Masonic Service on Sunday at 7 p.m. in the Funeral Home. Funeral Services from the Funeral Home Chapel on Monday at 3 p.m. Cremation with interment of ashes in the family plot in the North Bay Union Cemetery. If desired donations to the Canadian Cancer Society will be gratefully acknowledged as expressions of sympathy.
