Eileen died peacefully at her Powassan home on Thursday, December 12, 2013 in her 105th year. She was predeceased by her husband Joseph Thomas Welsh, and her children Millie Oldfield (the late Lyall) and Joe Welsh (Pat of Powassan). She will be lovingly remembered by eight grandchildren and many great and great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Eileen was especially close to her niece Jane Potterfield of Chisholm. She was the dear sister of Ross Coughlin (Kay) of South River and was predeceased by her siblings Dempna Gore (late Jim), Frank Coughlin (late Madeline), Dan Coughlin, Stewart Coughlin (Edna of South River), Tony Coughlin (late Jean) and Jim Coughlin (late Dorothy). Eileen was a remarkable woman, cleaning, cooking and living alone, on her own terms, right up to the day she died. She served many years at Remembrance Day services as the Silver Cross Mother and was a dedicated supporter of the Powassan Legion. Eileen was a faithful member of St. Joseph’s Church and continued to walk to Mass well into her 104th year. The Welsh family will receive visitors at the Paul Funeral Home in Powassan on Sunday, December 15th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm with a Prayer Service at 8:45 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 11 am at St. Joseph’s Church, Powassan. Spring interment South River Cemetery.
