Peacefully at Nipissing Manor Nursing Care Centre in Corbeil on Saturday June 18, 2011 at the age of 84 years. Velda was the beloved wife of the late Robert Charles Thompson. The loving mother of Charlie and his wife Carol of Toronto, Leith and his wife Ann of Peterborough, Bill and his wife Lois of Mississauga, Kevin of Severn Bridge, Kerry and her husband Bob Saari of Castlegar, BC., Maureen, Lynn and her husband Gilles Belecque, both of North Bay, and Melba and her husband Rick Vallee of Ottawa. She will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Vincent, Holly, Dayna, Kurt, Casey, Arienne, Rob, Kyle, Robert, David, Michel, Jessica, Madeline, Celine, Jennifer, and Melissa, and by her great grandchildren Quinnlan, Ashten, Brody, Loghan and Teagan. The dearly loved sister of Vera Buckingham of Saskatchewan, she was predeceased by her brothers Raymond and Lorne and sisters Florence and Lillian. Velda was a long time dedicated member of the Women’s Institute, the North Bay Choral Society, Laurier Ave. United Church and the Church Choir. A dedicated wife and mother she will be sadly missed by her family and friends. Friends may call at the Martyn Funeral Home on Tuesday evening from 7:00 -9:00 pm and on Wednesday June 22nd from 1:30pm until time for services in the chapel at 3:00 pm. Following cremation her ashes will be interred with her late husband in Aylesbury, Saskatchewan.
