Sweeney, Rita

It is with much sadness that the family announces the passing of Rita Sweeney at the North Bay Regional Health Centre on Sunday, January 12, 2014 in her 87th year.  Survived by her sister Mary of North Bay, Rita was predeceased by her mother & father, Angeline & Eugene Sweeney of Cobalt, brothers Charles, Joseph and Gerald of Cobalt and sister Eleanor of Garson.  Rita was the loving Aunt to Barry, Margaret (pre-deceased), Frank, Michael, Kathy and Teresa and Great-Aunt to many.  Rita was a dear friend of Bernie & Marlene McCosham. Although Rita had resided at Nipissing Manor for the last few years, she was a longtime resident of Cobalt, Ontario and later Garson, Ontario.  Born and raised in Cobalt, you could consider Rita a pioneer of women’s rights.  She made a living as an independent woman in a man’s world.  Rita was a fun loving aunt that treasured her nieces and nephews and always put her family and friends first.  She will be missed. Friends may call at Hillside Funeral Services on Saturday, January 18th from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. with the funeral service to follow at 11 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
