Born and raised in Toronto, Shirley attended Humberside Collegiate. She excelled in athletics, especially swimming. Musically gifted, she sang professionally in her younger years and she loved to play the piano. Shirley graduated as a Registered Nurse from the Oshawa General Hospital in 1947. She nursed for many years at the Civic and St. Joe's Hospitals in North Bay. Patient care was always her passion. She was known for her caring and compassion throughout her life. A woman of great spirit and adventure, Shirley enjoyed the outdoors and willingly indulged and followed her beloved Chip's passion for hunting, fishing, dogs and canoeing. She and Chip were founding members of the North Bay and District Retriever Club. Shirley lived her life with dignity and grace, always admonishing her children to “love one another“. Special thanks to Katherine and all her staff on the third floor, Cassellhome. Our family is especially appreciative of the many kindnesses shown to our mother by Nurse Gail. Arrangements through PAUL'S FUNERAL HOME in Powassan, ON. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday May 10th at St. Peter's Anglican Church on High Street in Callander, ON.
