Rodney Charles (Charlie) Sobey,

April 20, 1945 – September 7, 2022

Charlie/Papa/Grampy/Pops, we knew your time was limited and we tried hard to treasure every minute we had with you, but the end came too soon, and nobody was prepared for the hole that is left in our world.

As a husband, grandpa, dad, brother, uncle, and friend to many, our father made an impact wherever he went, from being a proud Royal Canadian Dragoon in the sixties to a top miner who worked all over Canada and abroad, he was well respected, honest, and expected a good day’s work for a good day’s pay.

The only thing that he didn't do well was retire. It took a handful of attempts before he got that right. Only after his health started failing did he finally accept his working days were over and even then, he pushed himself to the limit in his garden and kitchen, cooking feasts for the family whenever he could. With mom at his side, he was always ready for an adventure, and the two of them travelled whenever they could, making friends and creating memories as they went.

Through him we all learned to work hard, laugh often and to enjoy every minute spent with family and good friends. He taught us how to give unselfishly and to be good neighbours. His grandkids will be able to share the stories he told of his life, about how Grampy always got things done no matter what, no matter how funny, painful, and messy the solution was.

It wasn’t time for you to go yet, we still had stuff to do. Even though we will have to go on without you here, we know that you will live on in in our hearts and memories. We will pass on the life lessons you taught us to future generations, and your legacy will live on forever through them.

Left behind to remember you is your loving wife Cindy (Mom) daughters Michelle (Randy), Jennifer (Randy), Jami (Pedro), Robyn, son Dennis (Tam), and grandchildren Cody (Kelsey), Cole, Addison, Lucas, Ryleigh, Nathan, Alex, Elliot and Owen as well as your twin brother Jack and all of your nephews and nieces.

Per our dad’s wishes, there will not be a formal service, the family will gather privately to remember our dad and celebrate his life with a BBQ and a Beer and Clamato. In memory of our dad’s best buddies, Sam and Mickey, if desired, donations to All Heart Pet Rescue in Powassan would be appreciated by his family.
