June 16, 1953 - March 17, 2024

Terry Patrick John Smith passed away peacefully March 17, 2024 at the North Bay Regional Health Centre at the age of 70, surrounded by family.

Terry is survived by his children, Patrick and Meagan (Graeme), their mother Shari, his siblings Susan (Scott) and David (Karen), and his nieces and nephews Dana (Shaun), Robin (Jackie), Lily (Brennen), and Shane (Laura).

He is predeceased by his parents, Howard and Francis (née Cornish), his brother, Peter (Debbie), and his nephews, Scott (Amanda) and Kris (Kayle).

Terry’s career as a locomotive engineer for CP Rail provided him with many friends, and even more stories. He loved to have his children along for the occasional trip, especially on the Budd Car to Sudbury, where they would often take the opportunity to visit Science North.

He was enthusiastic about life, enjoyed reading and photography, and loved nature in all its forms. His curiosity meant he knew at least a little about almost everything, and he always had a joke to tell. When he didn’t have his nose in a book, he was likely to be found outside, maybe putting around on Maple Lake. He had a special connection to animals, most notably his constant companion Mustard, who we know is happy to see him again. Terry was one of the kindest and softest-hearted people you were likely to meet, always ready to make a new friend, and would “cry at a mall-opening.” He also had an uncanny knack for leaving the room immediately before the Leafs scored a goal.

A celebration of Terry's life will be held at the Parry Sound Legion on Saturday, May 4, 2024 between the hours of 2:00-5:00pm. If you have any questions, please direct them to [email protected]

A donation to the North Bay Humane Society in Terry’s name would be much appreciated. www.northbayhumanesociety.ca Online condolences can be made at www.mcguintyfuneralhome.com
