Sister Rose Anne (Gilda Cantera)

Posted

It is with great sadness that the Sisters of St. Joseph announce the death of Sister Rose Anne (Gilda Cantera) on Tuesday, June 14th, 2011 at St. Joseph's Motherhouse, North Bay. Sister Rose Anne was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario in 1913, and entered the Sisters of St. Joseph in 1939. Sister was a teacher who began her career in the elementary panel in Sault Ste. Marie. Her role as educator brought her to North Bay, Schreiber, Blind River, Sudbury and Garden River; she completed her teaching career at St. Mary's School, Sault Ste. Marie. Following her teaching career, Sister Rose Anne was called to serve her congregation as Director of Novices, as a Councillor on the Leadership Team, and as Administrator of St. Joseph's Motherhouse. Sister accepted the invitation to minister as a part of the retreat team at Mount St. Joseph, Sault Ste. Marie. Sister Rose Anne is predeceased by her parents Ernest Cantera and Rose Gentile, her brother, Dr. Antonio Cantera and her sisters, Mary Dipentima, Pauline Gingras and Linda Larkin. She is survived by her sister-in-law Fernande Cantera and several nieces and nephews. Sister Rose Anne will be remembered as a woman of deep faith, an 'exceptional' mentor with a capacity for listening, encouraging, and affirming all those who were privileged to know her. Every person left her presence with a deeper sense of their own goodness. Her curiosity, interest, and sense of wonder in all that life had to offer was evident in the twinkle in her eye at the discovery of something new in God's creation. The body of Sister Rose Anne will be received at the Motherhouse at 1:30 p.m., on Sunday, June 19th. A prayer vigil will be held in the Holy Family Chapel at 7:00 p.m. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 20th, in the Sacred Heart Chapel. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, North Bay. Funeral arrangements under the direction of McGUINTY FUNERAL HOME. “May Sister Rose Anne rest in peace.“
