Posted

It is with sadness that The Sisters of St. Joseph of Sault Ste. Marie announce the death of Sister M. Andrea (Eileen McKay) on Friday, November 25, 2005 in the Infirmary of St. Joseph's Motherhouse, North Bay. Sister Andrea was born in Port Arthur, Ontario (Thunder Bay) and entered The Sisters of St. Joseph of Sault Ste. Marie in 1938. A teacher and librarian, Sister Andrea ministered in schools throughout Northern Ontario including North Bay, Blind River, Fort William and Wikwemikong. Following retirement from active ministry in 1984, Sister continued on as Librarian at St. Joseph's Motherhouse and archivist for St. Joseph's College until illness prevented her from continuing. When her health permitted Sister Andrea attended all wakes and funeral services for the family members of former students of St. Joseph's College. As well she kept her friends and the congregation informed of current events by clipping stories from newspapers that she felt would be of interest to you; she also loved to forward comics. Many tapped into her librarian skills when books were needed for study purposes. She will be remembered for her kindness, graciousness, faithfulness, quiet presence and love of a good party. Sister Andrea loved her family, and enjoyed spending time with them in the summer at San Jose Camp. Predeceased by her parents, Norman Francis McKay and Anne Marie Godin, as well as sisters Violet McKay and Maureen Gomes, Sister Andrea is survived by sisters Iola Willoughby and Maureen Gomes as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The body of Sister Andrea will be received at St. Joseph's Motherhouse, North Bay on Sunday, November 27 at 2 p.m. A prayer vigil will be held at 7:30 p.m., Sunday. The Funeral Liturgy will be held on Monday, November 28, at 11 a.m. Burial to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, North Bay.
