SCHOEN, Kurtis Michael (Freight-train)

Tragically and far too young, Kurtis Schoen died doing something he loved Saturday, August 1, 2015, in Astorville. He was 17 years old. Kurtis was the beloved son and best buddy of  Darlene (Burey) and Mike Schoen of Astorville; Little Boo-Boo to his sisters Stacey Perron (Mark) of Corbeil, Lindsay Houghton (Cory) of Sudbury and Ashley Hubert (Mike Heino) of Sudbury; uncle Kur-Kur to Kaydence and Karleigh; special nephew and friend of Heidi Schoen; much loved grandson of Dieter and Ruby Schoen of Chatsworth, and Emery and Aurore Burey of Timmims; dear nephew, cousin, and like family to his East Nipissing Vipers, West Ferris Trojans, Nipissing Wild team-mates, and his many other friends, team-mates, and officiating friends. Kurtis was a friend to everybody he touched. He graduated from West Ferris High School this past June and was looking forward to pursuing studies in air traffic control. All former team-mates and officials are encouraged to wear their team or officiating jersey to any or all of the visitation, funeral and reception. The Schoen family will receive visitors at the Paul Funeral Home, Powassan on Friday, August 7, 2015 from 1 to 4 pm and 7 to 10 pm. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 8 at 11 am in St. Thomas d’Aquin Church, Astorville followed by a reception and celebration of Kurtis’ life. Location to be announced. Cremation to follow. If desired, donations in memory of Kurtis to the East Ferris Minor Hockey Association are suggested (cheques please).
