Ryerse, Wilfred

Posted

Long time North Bay resident, Wilf Ryerse, died peacefully at the North Bay General Hospital on Saturday, December 25, 2010 at the age of 93 years. For over 67 years Wilf has been the devoted and loving husband of Lilian (nee Foster). Born and raised in Simcoe, Ontario, he was the only child of the late Harvey & Ella Ryerse. During WWII he proudly served in the air force, first as a mechanic in England, then as a navigator, being posted on both the east and west coasts. In 1945 Wilf’s job with the Royal Bank brought him and Lilian to North Bay, where they raised their family and have resided since. After leaving the bank, he joined the staff of Inspiration Mining, then Federal Drilling where he remained until retiring. A community-minded man he kept his accounting skills sharp by volunteering as the book keeper for many years with L’Arche and the Family Life Center. A gifted life-long photographer, he took great pleasure in developing and printing his own images, many of which are treasured family keepsakes. A devoted Christian, Wilf has been an active member of First Baptist Church since he arrived in North Bay. In keeping with his strong Christian values, he and Lilian, quietly and faithfully cared for and helped those less fortunate. Vietnamese refugees, palliative patients, or those just struggling, were all recipients of Wilf’s generosity and support. He will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife Lilian, his daughters Judith Ingwersen (Bill) of North Bay and Dr. Cynthia Ryerse (Dr. Joe Ferencz), of Ancaster, his beloved grandchildren Tanya (Graham), Sarah (Paul), Chris, and Jay and his great granddaughters Elizabeth, Alice and Roslyn. Respecting Wilf’s wishes cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held in the spring in North Bay Union Cemetery. If desired, donations to Into All the World, or a charity of your choice will be gratefully acknowledged as expressions of sympathy. Arrangements entrusted to Martyn Funeral Home.
