RYAN, Martin 'Marty'

Passed away peacefully on March 11, 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer. Beloved husband and best friend to Pat for 55 years.  Cherished father of Paul (Janet) Tracey (Terry).  #1 Papa to Martina, Sean, Patrick and Sydney.  Marty is predeceased by his parents, Martin and Margaret Ryan and is survived by his brothers and sisters.
Born on Bell Island Newfoundland, Marty moved to Ontario when he was thirteen with is family to pursue a new life adventure.  This adventure allowed him to gain experience and training as a fitter welder.  There was nothing that Marty couldn’t fix or come up with an idea to make it work, a true handy man and jack of all trades.
Our Dad/Papa was a true mentor for his family and his family meant the world to him.  There was nothing he would not have done or sacrificed to ensure his family was taken care of, this was especially true for his Grandchildren. From showing them life skills, hunting, watching hockey, camping, and drinking beer.  Marty was truly an amazing Papa, Dad and Husband, and his family loved him with all their hearts. Our Dad was always there for us and our Mom.
Marty could be stubborn and opinionated but deep-down Marty was like an onion many layers, some thick, some thin some easy to peel away and some not so much, a big true soft heart.  He never missed a chance to brag about his family and what they were doing to anyone that would listen and even if you didn’t want to listen, he was going to tell you.
Marty loved to fish, hunt, play golf, watch old western movies and loved to have a cold beer or maybe a few cold beers with family, friends and the legion gang.
Even when he wasn’t felling well, he would always want his hugs and want to talk with his family. Through his last days he never let us know just how bad he was feeling, he was the strongest man we knew.
The family would like to thank all of Marty’s health care providers for their support and treatments with during his illness, especially Dr Lyon and ER nurse Jenn from the Health Sciences North ER Department for your care and compassion during Marty’s final hours.
