It is with deepest sadness but also relief that the family of David Ritchie announce that his long battle with cancer has ended. He passed peacefully at the NBRHC, as the sun was coming up on Tuesday October 19th 2021. By his side until the very end was David’s soul mate and love of his life wholeheartedly for 26 years, Georgina Bates.

David was born on a sunny day March 20th 1950 to the late Robert and Irene Ritchie (Campney) in Welland, ON. Beloved brother to Kathy Rubino (Angelo) John Ritchie (Gail), Bill Ritchie (deceased) Raymond Ritchie (deceased) (Patti) and Timmy Wyatt (Winnie). David was the much loved son-in-law to Heather and Don Turcotte, brother in-law to Angie and Jeff Hill, George Morton (Kathleen) and Tanya McQuoid (Steve).

Father to Amy (Randy Hilton), Kristy and Ashley Bates (Josh Hatt). Proudest grandpa and Poppa to Isaac, Landon, Paige, Elizabeth, Robert, David, Lakyn and William, who were all his pride and joy. David will be missed by many nieces and nephews.

David loved his family. He was grateful and blessed with many friends, whom he considered family. He was a proud man who had strong work ethics. David was a member of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades Local 1904 for many years. He took great pride in every single brush stroke, no matter the job.
On his days off, David enjoyed hunting, fishing and bowling. His humor and easy disposition left an unforgettable impression to those who knew him. David was a charmer at best, and always brought smiles to everyone, even those he just met.

David faced life head on with an undeniable strength and kept his humbleness in his own unique way. Success for David was never measured in dollars. David’s richness came from his heart when he was able to help and support others as much as he could.  He always looked for the positive no matter what challenges he faced.  As David would always say, “well there you go.”

Georgina, along with the family would like to give a heartfelt thanks to those who helped David throughout this journey Dr. Abeysinghe and the many doctor’s at the NECC, staff at NBRHC (A3 and ER), LHIN and ParaMed. Nurse Sandra Sargent we are so grateful for your support. You got us through this difficult journey. You helped make David’s days the best they could be. With all of your knowledge and skill, you made each day easier and clearer for us to get through.

As per David’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.  Funeral arrangements entrusted to MARTYN FUNERAL HOME.
