October 13th, 1934 - March 12th, 2022

With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of James “Jim” Archibald Price on March 12, 2022. Jim was the beloved husband of Elizabeth “Liz” Price and father to Jocelyne and James (Carolyn). He was a doting grandfather to Ellie and Cooper Price. He was a greatly loved brother to Edith (Grant) Garrette (predeceased), Richard (Mary) Price, Clifford (Anna) Price, and Linda (Dale) Fenton. He holds a special place in the hearts of his many nieces and nephews.

Jim was born in Sudbury, Ontario to his parents James and Germaine Price (nee Allard). Jim was a true northerner and embraced everything about the outdoors. He fondly retold stories of his youth, especially those involving trekking through the bush with his family to spend summers at camp where he enjoyed fishing, swimming, and canoeing. Later in life, he made his annual trip to Manitoulin Island to go salmon fishing and Bancroft to the hunt camp. He was happiest outdoors, sitting in the bush with a book and quietly watching the wildlife.

Jim spent many years as a senior representative with the Royal Bank in various cities including Toronto and North Bay, but with his heart in the north, Jim and Liz ultimately settled in North Bay. Jim was inspired to change his career path and became owner/operator of Pine Lane Park on Four Mile Lake. Jim later ran a successful fire and safety business before his retirement in 1988. In their golden years, Jim and Liz flocked to Florida with their fellow snowbirds. For Jim, there was nothing better than happy hour in the Florida sunshine.

Jim had a remarkable charitable spirit and passionately gave back to his community. Among his endeavours, Jim was often seen selling raffle tickets as President of the North Bay Kinsmen, organizing boat shows as a member of the Rotary Club of North Bay, and promoting public health as the Chairman of the North Bay District Health Unit.

Jim knew how to draw people together and revelled in the presence of others around him. One of his favourite pastimes was entertaining friends and family while cooking and listening to opera. The highlight of each year was Family Thanksgiving.

After several decades in North Bay, Jim and Liz moved down the road to the town of Callander, where they have spent the last 20 years in a wonderful community surrounded by caring neighbours.

Jim’s family is forever grateful to Dr. Ian Cowan and Dr. Douglas Lee, whose excellent medical care and attention allowed him to live a full and active life.

A celebration of life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the North Bay Regional Health Centre or the Callander Public Library.

Cheers to a life well lived.
