O'Keefe, Michael

Posted

Born in New Liskeard in 1930. Mike O’Keefe began his teaching career in Kirkland Lake in 1953 as a teacher of auto mechanics and became technical director in 1960. In 1965 he was hired as a member of a unique team of teachers to open a new secondary school, Widdifield. Husband of Yolande Jolicoeur. Father of Michael John and Stephen. Brother to Mildred Morgan and John O’Keefe (Gwen). Brother in law to Gilberte Morin. Uncle to a number of nephews and nieces. Mike’s contribution to education extends well beyond his role as a technical teacher and technical director. His leadership has been recognized and experienced by educators in his community and throughout the province. He acted as chairman of the Regional Technical Directors, assumed responsibility for the design and layout of several educational facilities including Widdifield and West Ferris Secondary Schools. He worked as a resource to the Ministry of Education in establishing learning profiles for the Linkage Program, and has acted as a resource person to several organizations including Canada Manpower. Above all these attributes, the most important to remember is that Mike O’Keefe was a “nice guy” who had always displayed a sense of humor and kindness to the people with whom he has contacted. A memorial service will be held at the McGuinty Funeral Home Chapel on Friday June 5 at 11am. In lieu of flowers due to allergies a donation to your charity of choice would be appreciated by the family. Online condolences can be made at www.mcguintyfuneralhome.com
