MURRAY, Rodrigue “Rod“ Louis

Posted

At the age of 63. Passed away Sunday, October 15th, 2006 at the Sudbury Regional Hospital, Laurentian Site. Beloved former husband of Madeleine Martel and loving companion of Pauline Mallette. Loving father of Stephane (wife Kim) of Hanmer, Chantal Mostoway (husband Harry) of Hanmer, Dave of Sudbury and Glen (wife Mureille) of Sudbury. Cherished grandfather of Mathieu, Shandice, Serina, Cameron, Kayla, Nathaniel and Lindsay. Predeceased by his parents Leopold and Jeanette (nee Levasseur) Murray. Dear brother of five sisters and eight brothers.

Rod was born in Matane, Quebec, the seventh of 14 children. Times were tough for the Murray family. At the age of 11 years, he went to work in logging to help support the family. As a teenager, he enjoyed playing hockey, playing pranks on his brothers, driving fast cars and listening to his idol Elvis Presley. He met Madeleine Martel, married and moved to Mattawa where Rod became a logger. They had four children, three sons and one daughter. He moved his family to Sudbury in the 70's and went into the trucking business. He was a hard working family man, giving all to his kids, never stopping to think about himself. Health issues forced Rod into early retirement in 1982. Although the marriage ended in 1986, Rod maintained a close and warm relationship with his children. He was an excellent father, who became an even better grandfather. He met Pauline Mallette in 2000 and fell in love a second time. Although his life was cut short by illness, his remaining days were spent surrounded by family and friends that loved him dearly. Rod will be missed but he will never be forgotten.

Funeral Service in the Lougheed Funeral Home Chapel, 252 Regent St. at Hazel St. on Thursday, October 19th, 2006 at 11:30 a.m. Cremation at the Park Lawn Crematorium.
