MURRAY, John Herbert

Posted

John Murray passed away peacefully at the Kingston General Hospital on May 14th in his 65th year after a brief illness. John was born at St. Joseph’s Hospital on June 20th, 1946 with his twin sister Lynn. He was predeceased by his mother and father Bob and Zetta. Left to remember him are his children Craig, Cora, Kyle and Mathew. He will be lovingly missed by his twin sister Lynn Wright (Jim) and baby sister Betty Brown. Uncle John will always be remembered by his nieces and nephews Jimmy, Derek, Lindsay, Jeff, Lexi, Cori, Joshua and Darren and always fondly remembered by Donna. Grampa will be missed by Cameron, Cassandra and Brett. Remembered by his cousins Peter Murray of North Bay and Diana Mossey of Copper Cliff. His wide circle of friends and co workers will forever think of him with love.

John graduated as a registered nurse from the Brockville Psychiatric Hospital in 1969 and went on to practice nursing in a variety of capacities until he returned to his hometown of North Bay in 1998 where he worked with the Ontario Forestry Safe Workplace Association as Coordinator of Program Development and Communcations until he retired in 2005. John began a post retirement position in Moosonee as a professor at Northern College enjoying the wonders of the great Canadian north and established strong friendships within the community.

John was always an advocate for people with special needs and a proponent of equal opportunity for all. He was an avid sports fan cheering on his favourite Toronto Maple Leafs no matter what. His love of reading everything he could get his hands on, made him a very learned and interesting conversationalist. Music was always a part of John’s life whether he was singing his way through cooking up a great meal or as a drummer in a rock band in Chapleau or as a piper in the Legion pipe band.
Family dogs were his friends as were the dogs that would visit him at his doorstep in Moosonee. His quick wit and sense of humour will always be a wonderful memory for those left behind. Rest well John. You are loved.

Family will receive friends at Martyn Funeral Home on Saturday, May 28th from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 3:00p.m. There will be a private family interment at Terrace Lawn Cemetery on Monday May 30th. If desired, donations to the Community Living Mattawa , The North Bay Regional Hospital or the charity of your choice would be gratefully acknowledged as expression of sympathy.
