MURRAY, Inez P.

Posted

It is with sadness the family announces the passing of Inez Murray (Tromley) on Saturday, October 15, 2005 at Elmwood Place Nursing Home in London, Ontario. She was in her 91st year. Inez has lived in London for the past six years, but is still well-known to many people in North Bay. She was born October 6, 1915 in Bracebridge, Ontario. She was predeceased by her three sisters; Olive Smith of Niagara Falls, Vera Smith of St. Catharines, and Meryl Allan of Sudbury. Inez is survived by her four children; Larry Murray of Squamish, British Columbia, Breen (Susan) Murray of Ottawa, Nedi Harrison of London and Ralph (Diane) Murray of Nepean, Ontario. She is also survived by six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Inez was an independent woman and considered her family as her greatest accomplishment. During her working career, she was best known as the Woman's Editor of the North Bay Nugget ... a position she held from 1963 to 1976. However, she was also the first licenced female real estate agent in North Bay and liked to say she "sold all of the vacation property on the south shore of Lake Nipissing." Inez also served out a term on North Bay City Council in the early 1980's. She was a long-time supporter of the IODE and served a term as Regent of the Herbert E. Bruce Chapter. The IODE initiated an annual bursary in her honour for the top graduating student in the Canadore College Journalism program. Final arrangements have been entrusted to the Memorial Funeral Home in London. There will be no visitation or funeral. A private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Huntington's Society of Canada would be greatly appreciated. SASYNIUK, Metro - Passed away after a lengthy illness, on Tuesday, October 18, 2005. Metro was in his 85th year. He was the loving father of Jim and his wife Laurene and grandfather to Shawn and Tina and her husband Kevin Long; Sandra Wellum and her husband Harold and grandfather to Ryan and Chris; and Randy and his wife Jan (Couchie) and grandfather to Rana, Jessica, Candice, Harley and Garret. He will be remembered by Cecile (nee Fournier) Sasyniuk. Metro served on the front lines during the Second World War, and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #23. He was an avid outdoorsman and was also a member of the North Bay Golden Age Club where he had spent many enjoyable hours line dancing and clogging. Visitation for Metro will be held in the MARTYN FUNERAL HOME (across from City Hall) today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Legion Memorial Service will be held in the Martyn Funeral Home today at 3 p.m. Cremation will follow the visitation. If desired, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation will be gratefully acknowledged as expressions of sympathy.
