MURPHY, C.G.(Clarence)

Posted

In his 86th year went to be with the Lord Wednesday September 6, 2006. Loved husband of 24 years of Dell (Hammell) and devoted Father of Gerry (Susan), Marylynn (Paul) Corbeil, Jim (Helen), Denise (Darren) Joyes, Jennifer (Dan) Barker. Much loved and appreciated step-father of Rick (Shirley), Ken (Leah) and Rob Ferron. Clarence was predeceased by his first wife, Germaine Truchon, his daughter Donna and granddaughter Jillian. He is also survived by his loving sister Alice Mathieu, 18 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A life long resident of North Bay, Clarence was born in 1920 in West Ferris. The son of William and Sarah (Raymond) Murphy, he had four siblings; Mary (deceased), Joseph (deceased), Kathleen (deceased) and Alice.

In 1943, Clarence enlisted to serve his King and country as part of the Royal Canadian Navy Volunteer Reserve in the Second World War sailing the North Atlantic for 22 months aboard the corvette class, Frontenac. He was honourably discharged in December, 1945. After the war Clarence returned to settle in North Bay and in 1946 married Germaine Truchon. During their 32 year marriage, Clarence and Germaine together raised six children. In 1981, Clarence married Dell (Hammell). Together, Clare and Dell enjoyed each other, their families, church activities and traveling the world. During his working life Clarence was employed at Johns Mansville, Manager of the Rosebud Restaurant and Supervisor of Maintenance at Canadore College from which he retired. An avid Toronto Blue Jays fan, Clarence had a keen sense of humour and was an accomplished gardener, dancer, painter and baker. If the measure of a man can be found in the quality of his relationships with his family and friends, then Clarence “Murph” Murphy epitomized the kind of man who achieved tremendous success in life. A man who was committed to his family, he was very much loved and respected by all those who knew him. He will be sorely missed but certainly never forgotten.

A Memorial Celebration of Clarence's life will be held at Bethel Gospel Chapel, McKeown Avenue, North Bay on Monday September 11, 2006. Visitation will begin at 12 o'clock with the funeral service commencing at 2 p.m., followed by a luncheon. Donations in Clarence's memory will be gratefully acknowledged by his family and can be made to Camp Aush-Bik-Koong, the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
