MOOREHEAD, Ruth

Ruth Dorell Moorehead, age 74, of 172 Freeland Dr., Stratford passed away peacefully at the Stratford General Hospital on Thursday, December 1, 2005. She was born in Stratford, daughter of the late Edward J. Knechtel and the former Priscilla M. Doerr. Ruth graduated from the Stratford Normal School and taught in Kitchener until her marriage July 1, 1962 to Kenneth Moorehead. The couple lived in Brampton until 1974 when they moved to North Bay until 1997 when they returned to Stratford. Ruth had many interests in life such as music and the theatre, but her fondest love was family. While in North Bay she was active in the North Bay Choral Society and sang in the St. Andrews United Church Choir. Since returning to Stratford she was active in the Stratford Concert Choir and sang in Knox Presbyterian Church Choir. Ruth volunteered with Meals on Wheels and Neighbourly Services. In 2004 she was recipient of the Dama Award for volunteer of the year with the Friends of the Festival. Beloved wife of Kenneth Moorehead; loving mother of Christopher Moorehead and his wife Zoya, Toronto, Jennifer Keenan and her husband Martin, Burlington; cherished grandmother of Lydia and Edward Moorehead, Zachary Keenan; dear sister of Ermythe Moorehead and husband Gerald, Stratford, Stewart Knechtel and wife Barbara, R.R. # 2 Gadshill; sister-in-law of Reverend Bill and Marian Moorehead, Kingston, N.S., Robert and Jean Moorehead, Stratford, Marilyn Moorehead, Greenville, S.C. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews and their families. Predeceased by her parents Edward Knechtel (1990) and Priscilla Doerr (1991) and a brother-in-law Douglas Moorehead (2003). Friends and relatives may call at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford on Sunday, December 4, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Knox Presbyterian Church, 142 Ontario Street, Stratford on Monday at 11 a.m. Reverend Terry Hastings will officiate. Interment Zion United Church Cemetery, Rostock. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Knox Presbyterian Church or the Stratford Festival through the funeral home.
