Doreen Bernice Barlow Moore, 78, of North Bay, passed away peacefully at North Bay Regional Hospital on May 22, 2024, surrounded by her family and friends.

Doreen was born on April 3, 1946, in North Bay, she was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.

Her family was the center of her world. She is survived by her daughter, Sherri Moore (Brantford), her husband, Rob McCall and their three sons: Logan, Liam, and Grady. She also leaves behind her son, Robert Moore (Newmarket), his wife, Samantha, and their two daughters, Grace and Katie, as well as their beloved dog, Rosie Bear.Doreen is also survived by her siblings Rosemarie Malynyk (Mel, deceased), Nora Best (Ron, deceased), and Lyle Bolton (Marg.). She was predeceased by her siblings Ken Barlow/Bolton, Howard Bolton, and Marguerite Bolton. Doreen will be missed by numerous nieces and nephews.

Doreen had an undeniable zest for life and found joy in the little things. She possessed the biggest heart, always ready to give her love and homemade crafts to those around her. Her passion for crafting was unparalleled, and she delighted in teaching others the art of creating beautiful things. Whether it was quilts, scrapbooks, greeting cards, or anything in between, she put her heart and soul into every project.

Although she has many strengths her sense of humor and determination were the backbone. She brought light and laughter to every room she entered and inspired those who knew her to persevere through any of their own challenges.

Doreen’s career was as diverse and vibrant as her personality. She began as a switchboard operator at Bell Canada. When her brilliant mind was noticed, Bell Canada sent her on many adventures as a supervisor and as a teacher throughout Ontario. During these adventures, Doreen realized the world was changing and her intuition guided her back to school. At Canadore College, she pursued a new path and became a computer programmer. With her newfound skills, she started her own programming business, securing contracts with Caisse Populaire and the North Bay Police Service.

Eventually, Doreen combined her three passions of teaching, crafting and programming and taught sewing for Creation Unique. She soon became a sought-after expert throughout North America, assisting many sewers in programming their new sewing machines. Doreen’s remarkable ability to adapt, even during challenging times, led her, as a senior citizen, to create and teach online Zoom classes. Her final creative endeavor was card making, with her beautiful handmade cards being received, and cherished by many.

Doreen's legacy is one of love, creativity, and joy. She will be deeply missed by all those who knew her and loved her dearly. Her spirit will continue to live on through the many memories she created and through the  many handcrafted treasures she leaves behind.

The family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to her sister, Nora Best, for her unwavering support and extraordinary care during this time. The family would also like to  extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at North Bay Regional Hospital, Empire. Retirement Residence, and Dr. Wendy Graham and her staff for their exceptional care and support.
