MILTON, Lillian May Dunning

Posted

(May 20, 1917 - April 23, 2007) - Peacefully at her home with family attending, in North Bay. Lillian was predeceased by her parents Jesse Wilhemina and the Reverend A.J.D. Milton, sisters Dorothy, Ruth, and Irene, and brothers John, Gordon, and Stanley. Survived by brothers Fred and Edward (Muriel) of Calgary, Alberta, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Lillian was born in the Peace River district of Alberta. She attended McMaster University and graduated with a degree in English and Education. Her last teaching job was at Chippewa Secondary School. In North Bay, Lillian resided at the home of Crystal and James Stephenson whom she had taken as family having adopted Crystal (Pha LeNguyen-an). Crystal acknowledged Lillian's kindness and continued to provide care and love for her until her passing. Lillian enjoyed Dominic and Benjamin, treating them as her own grandchildren. She maintained a lifelong involvement with the Baptist church. A devoted follower, she attended the First Baptist Church on Cassells Street and maintained a lifelong involvement until declining health prevented her from going. Lillian was very generous supporting many charities that served the less fortunate, especially in the developing world. She was always willing to lend a helping hand to someone who needed it. It was this kindness and generosity that led to her being instrumental in helping to establish the Refugee Concern with a group of like- minded individuals. Together, they were responsible for sponsoring and establishing refugees from South East Asia in the 70's and 80's. She made many lifelong friends and helped enrich the cultural fabric of North Bay. Many of the families that this group sponsored continued to maintain contact with Lillian. She will be sadly missed by her many friends at First Baptist Church, and Tuyen Burke (Nate) and Dat Nguyen (Karen).

Friends may call at MARTYN FUNERAL HOME tonight from 7-9 p.m. and again on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, April 27th at First Baptist Church (1250 Cassells Street) at 2 p.m. Cremation with interment at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Edmonton Alberta.
